Fourth Year Reps

Dasha Pospelova and Sharlini Varatharajah

Hi my name is Sharlini and I’m going into 4th year. I am MedSoc’s 4th Year Rep alongside the lovely Dasha. The role involves organising socials for the 4th Years & looking after their well-being. We plan on organising inclusive socials, taking particular care to ensure that everyone in the year group will be able to have the types of socials that they will most enjoy.I don’t have any previous experience of being in MedSoc, so I am excited to see what this year will hold!

What is your favourite thing about BSMS?
My favourite thing about BSMS is definitely the people. From the staff to the students, I’ve found everyone to be really kind and supportive. I just love the energy at BSMS, which fundamentally comes from the amazing people here.

What is your best memory of BSMS?
I have many incredible memories at BSMS so far as I was lucky enough to find some beautiful souls to be my friends. One of my absolute favourite memories would have to be our 2nd Year Winter Ball. It was beautifully organised by my best friends Sue and Dasha and it was such a lovely evening, followed by a super fun night dancing on tables at Coalition!

What would be your dream job if you weren’t doing medicine?
If I wasn’t studying Medicine, my dream job would be to do some sort of role where I could fight social injustice and also travel all over the world. I’m not sure what that would be called 🤷🏽‍♀️.

What is the best hangover cure?
For me, the best hangover cure is getting fresh air and a session in at the gym. Nothing overly strenuous, just something to get my body moving and sweat out the alcohol. If I’m hungover to the point that I’m bed bound, then pizza & movie marathons with my favourite people would be my go to.

What I love most about Dasha?
What I love most about Dasha is how fiercely protective she is of her friends. She could hear me in distress from the other side of the house/club/country (she’s from Leeds & I’m from London) and she’ll just appear and automatically be in ‘have Sharlu’s back’ mode. I can always count on her to show up and be there for me.

Hey everyone,My name is Dasha and I am going to be your 4th Year Rep alongside my bestie Sharlini. I was a Social Secretary two years ago and I am looking forward to being a part of medsoc once more. Our role is to make sure 4th years have a banging year even in light of current circumstances. We will look out for the wellbeing of students within the year group and make sure we speak up for what everyone wants.

What is your favourite thing about BSMS?
It is hard to pick one…I like how at BSMS the year groups are small and you can get to know everyone quickly and integrate well. Med school also offers a wide range of societies that you can be part of and that way you can get to know students from other year groups.

What is your best memory of BSMS?
One time when I was a social sec, we led a group of freshers the wrong way (AWAY from the club) as we did not actually know the location of the club we were hosting an event at. When we realised, we had to play it off like we were going on an adventure, and I am pretty sure everyone was too drunk to notice and just enjoyed the ride.

Who would win in a fight?
We don’t fight one another but we would make an awesome fighting duo…Batman and Robin look out.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Somewhere far away…so maybe the Maldives.

What is your favourite film?
Easy…Bohemian Rhapsody because Queen are amaZing.
