The Chaplaincy at the University of Sussex is interfaith in
its mix of chaplains: Jewish, Chrisitan, Muslim and Buddhist chaplains
are available to support students and staff at the University, even if
only to offer a listening ear. Each chaplain, though connected to a
particular faith community, regards themselves as present for the entire
campus community regardless of whether individuals have a religious
affiliation or not. The Meeting House is a resource for all students –
though there are now restrictions due to the Covid-19 crisis. At the
moment, we offer online meditation sessions while also offering
restricted access to daily Masses and other meetings that may be taking
place during the pandemic. A Masjid is located next door to the Meeting
House for Muslim prayers, though under similar restrictions due to the
virus.
The Lead Chaplain, Chris McDermott, does a lecture for first and second
year medical students on wellbeing and mindfulness during the autumn
term, an example is below.

Re: the Muslim Prayer Room: A note from our Islamic Society
The Prayer Room is open to all Sussex University, IDS and BSMS students
and staff. However, at the moment the prayer room is undergoing
renovation so _it remains unavailable for usage until mid-October. _
We are in the process of sorting out temporary prayer spaces that might
be available from next week or the week after. Please ask students/staff
to follow the Sussex ISoc Facebook and Instagram pages to receive
regular updates.
In addition, when the Prayer Room does reopen, it has a system of a
regularly changing prayer room code that is only made available to
Muslim community members i.e. Sussex, IDS, BSMS students and staff and
is not shared outside of the group in the interests of safety, welfare
and protecting against Islamophobia.
The Prayer Room code is managed through a community WhatsApp group and
you can share this form with Muslim students and staff who wish to gain
access to the prayer room.
